Rhinoplasty

What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedures. There are several types of this procedure, and the surgical procedure for each is different. Rhinoplasty is one of these types of procedures. Rhinoplasty is a type of nose surgery in which the surgeon changes the structure of the cartilage or bone of the nose to improve its appearance. People may have this procedure done to make the following changes:
- Change in nose size
- Change in the angle of the nose
- Straightening the bridge of the nose
- Change in the shape of the tip of the nose
- Change in the size of the nostrils
- Fixing a drooping nose tip
Correction of nasal protrusions or depressions
Preparing for rhinoplasty surgery
The nose surgeon should carefully review your medical history to ensure that you do not have any problems. For example, the disorder hemophilia causes bleeding that does not stop, and therefore people with hemophilia are not suitable candidates for this type of surgery.
What is the difference between rhinoplasty and nose surgery?
Rhinoplasty is concerned with the appearance of the nose, but septoplasty changes the internal structure of the nose. For example, a doctor performs a septoplasty to correct a deviated septum.

Post-nasal surgery care
- Most patients do not experience pain after nose surgery, or their pain is mild and easily controlled with mild painkillers.
- You can change the nasal dressing if it gets dirty. This will continue until the nasal discharge stops.
- If you have a tampon inside your nose, see your doctor to have it removed at the time determined by your surgeon.
- The splint or cast should remain in place on the nose as long as the doctor deems it appropriate, so keep it dry and do not touch it.
- In the first week after surgery, the head of the bed (similar to a hospital bed) is elevated by 30 degrees so that the body is on an incline from the waist up. This can be created by placing pillows or the like under the mattress.
- Using ice around the eyes and cheeks for the first 24 to 48 hours is effective in reducing swelling and skin discoloration.
- In the first few days, bending should be to the extent that the head is not lower than the level of the heart. For example, when praying, it is better to bring the head towards the forehead and avoid bending the head and body downwards.
- You can take a shower 24 hours after the procedure, but you should not get your head or face wet. (You should have someone help you take a shower so you don't fall.)
- In the first few days after the operation, a small amount of discharge may come out of the nose, which should be wiped with a tissue, but the nose should not be touched.
- Do not insert any cleaning tools into your nose.
